Learn "wreck-less" driving with our Crash Course in Collision Avoidance

Did you know that more than 9,000 car crashes took place last year in B.C.? Worse yet, over 400 people died in those crashes. Were you involved in one of those crashes? If not, statistics show you will be within the next five years.
Do you want to avoid being one of these statistics? If so, the Crash Course in Collision Avoidance is for you, where you will learn how to gain the key to avoiding 80% of all collisions. In 3-½ hours you will learn and practice proper emergency braking techniques (with or without ABS), how to use your vision (not just your eyesight), steering techniques and emergency avoidance skills.

A European study showed that if drivers had just one second more to react, 80% of all crashes would be avoided. One second!

But where do we find that second? Within each of us. Almost every driver in this province was taught traffic skills when they got their license. That is, what to do at a red light, to stop at a stop sign, what lane to make a left turn from, and so on. But almost no one was taught car control skills: how to brake efficiently, how to steer to avoid something, how to control a skid, how to optimize your vision. Most drivers are left to develop those skills through years of trial and error learning. Most drivers never develop these skills. That’s where the Crash Course in Collision Avoidance comes in.

Canadian Direct Insurance is sponsoring this series of Collision Avoidance courses conducted in the Vancouver area, and in Victoria. Twenty drivers per course participate using their own cars. Two courses are conducted per day, running from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

Canadian Direct Insurance is offering a reduction in the collision portion of auto insurance rates to graduates of the Crash Course in Collision Avoidance.

All instructors are Driving Unlimited professional driver training experts and have high performance driving backgrounds. The course is specifically designed to help drivers of all skill levels to improve their chances of avoiding collisions by learning what they and their own vehicle are capable of – and more specifically, how to gain the all-important "one more second of reaction time."

The Crash Course in Collision Avoidance focuses on giving drivers the necessary skills and techniques to avoid collisions. It helps drivers realize that they are the most important key in avoiding collisions - that they are most responsible for collisions, and that crashes are not "accidents," but rather, avoidable collisions.

This driving program is not just a valuable learning experience, but a fun one, too. Participants will get an opportunity to learn valuable driving skills - at a minimal cost, thanks to the sponsors. Each participant will leave the program with a comprehensive handbook that reinforces the skills they have learned.
